The illustration above describe the mistake appears of file type icon (for JS File) on my laptop several days ago. The left picture show a wrong icon, while the right one show the true icon. I don’t know how the JS File icon change become a text file document.

I think the right question is how to change the icon for a file type in Windows? There’s nice tutorial from Ramesh Srinivasan, that you can read here. But if you confused how to do it, my other advice is by using third party tools, let say Default Programs Editor. I think this software is powerful file association utility for Windows. It is a context menu editor, an autoplay editor, and default programs association editor; essentially, the settings in the “Default Programs” Control Panel page. It’s a replacement for the “File Types” dialog in Windows XP, and brings some key features of TweakUI to Windows Vista/7.

Below is the feature of Default Programs Editor:

File Type Settings:

Add, Edit, and Delete context menu items

Edit file type information (such as icon and description)

Change an extension’s associated file type

Autoplay Settings:

Add, Edit, and Delete autoplay handler programs

Change which autoplay options are available for any media type

Change the default autoplay handler

Default Programs Settings:

Add or Remove default associations (possible to check, but not un-check, in Windows)

Additional Features:

Disable the “Search web for unknown extension” dialog

Standalone utility, or install as a Control Panel applet

Make direct changes to the system registry, or export edits as .reg files

Designed for Vista and Windows 7 with UAC support

Default Programs Editor is freeware, and for additional frequently asked question you always could visit the official website.

Several days ago, I helped my friend to install windows 7 in his new Asus A42F laptop. As usual I plan to partite the hard drive into 3 part (1 for the operating system, 2 for data saving), after that the installation begin and always failed, but I don’t know what’s happened to his laptop, it show an error with Error Code: 0×80070017. Finnally I found the solution that don’t make partition first before installation, so the system automatically only use one partition that is all of the quota of the hard drive.

Could you imagine your new laptop that have 500Gb hard drive quota, only use one partition. I think this is not efficient, actually you will see the impact when you have to reinstall your operating system (would you mind to back up all of your data and copy them back). For windows operating system you might use the disk management tools to solve this problem. But again I say it isn’t efficient, because if you use the disk management tools in your windows, you only could divide it into 2 partitions. I mean here is you are using to many disk quota for your system, which should be use to keep your data.

The efficient way is to use another partition manager software to manage your disk partition. I will share one freeware that might be useful for it, called Partition Wizard Home Edition. Partition Wizard Home Edition is a free partition manager software designed by MT Solution Ltd. This partition manager supports 32/64 bit Windows Operating System including Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Home users can perform complicated partition operations by using this powerful yet free partition manager to manage their hard disk. Functions include: resizing partitions, copying partitions, create partition, delete partition, format partition, convert partition, explore partition, hide partition, change drive letter, set active partition, and even for partition recovery.

User Interface of Partition Wizard Home Edition

Below is some of the main features of this software:

Support Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows7 (32 bit & 64 bit) operating system.

Support RAID.

Extend system partition to maximize computer performance.

Manage the hard disk for substantial performance increase.

Create, Delete and Format partitions with simple steps.

Disk Copy to protect or transfer data.

Support disk and partition size larger than 2 TB.

Convert partition format from FAT to NTFS.

Partition Copy: Copy the entire content of one hard disk to another.

Copy Disk Wizard: Copy the entire hard disk to another without having to reinstall Windows.

Hot Extend Partition without reboot.

I think this is the useful software that you should have when you want to manage your hard drive, beside the small size of the software, it’s also easy to use, you will know what to do if you run the program. So, what’s your opinion?

When you want to browsing through the internet using any browser, exactly you will type the URL of the webpage that you want to visit on the address bar, right? For example you want to visit Facebook, the homepage address of Facebook is
htt://www.facebook.com
, how do you type the address. Do you type the adress one by one? I think that’s not an efficient way.

This post will explain to you how to type the homepage address efficiently. Take the case you want to visit a website that have TLD .com .net or .org. The efficient way is by just type the name like facebook in your address bar and then press Ctrl + Enter and you will see the address will convert to
http://www.facebook.com/.

For the website that have TLD .net like The Official Microsoft ASP.NET site. you just type asp in your browser address bar, and then press Shift + Enter, you will see the address will automatically change to
http://www.asp.net/
.

Use the same technique if you want to visit homepage of wikipedia, just type wikipedia on your address bar, and then press Ctrl + Shift + Enter, this way will automatically bring you to the wikipedia homepage url
http://www.wikipedia.org/.

Conclusion:

Ctrl + Enter : The efficient way to type homepage of .com domain

Shift + Enter : The efficient way to type homepage of .net domain

Shift + Ctrl + Enter : The efficient way to type homepage of .org domain

When you install Windows 7 (or Vista) you may get the following message:

Error 0×80070017 Windows cannot copy files required for installation. These files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installtion are available, and restart the installation Error code: 0×80070017

This can be displayed with error code 0×80070017 or error code 0×80070570 in Windows 7 or Vista. The cause is very simple and you can probably guess from the error code in the screenshot above. The cause is that Windows cannot verify the files.

Simple Solution:

Burn or get a new copy of the disk (burn at 2x or 4x speed) you can use a quality media like Nero or Verbatim

Or if you have a current Windows installation, you can install it from the hard drive (or try to use an external CD drive) or you also could do it from a usb drive

Once a time I found this error on my friend’s new laptop, but the solution isn’t work, then I try another way: Delete all partition from the hard drive, let the installation running on unallocated hard drive part (I mean: don’t divide or split your hard drive before start the intallation).

Print screen (often abbreviated Prt Scr, Print Scrn, Prt Scn, Prt Sc, Prt Scrn, or Prnt Scrn) is a key present on most PC keyboards. It is typically situated in the same section as the break key and scroll lock key. Print screen is shared with system request.

Do you ever use the PrtSc SysRq key on a PC or laptop? The main function of this key is to print out the current screen on your PC or laptop. According to my experience, I use this key to take the of any screen display on my laptop whether a program, image, or a webpage. Take a look at the image below.

The Function of PrtSc Key

Now you could see the different between each image. The right one I capture only using PrtSc key, while the left one I using Alt + PrtSc key. The purpose of this post just want to point out the combine use Alt and PrsSc key. If you use only PrtSc key, your system automatically will capture all of your active (or current) screen including your desktop and also the taskbar, while if you use additional Alt key combining with PrtSc key, your system will ony take the capture of the active (or current) windows. Did you get the point?

Do you have a big quota for internet access in your laptop? Do you want to share you connection with your familiy, friend, or even to another people? But you don’t have any idea how to do it. One of the solutions that I would suggest is by using Connectify.

What is Connectify? Connectify is a free and easy to use software router for Windows 7 computers. With Connectify, users can wirelessly share any Internet connection: a cable modem, a cellular card, or even another Wi-Fi network. Other Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, smart phones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other Wi-Fi access point and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption.

When it is run in “Access Point” mode, Connectify is a real Wi-Fi Access Point running on your computer. Any device that can connect to a regular access point, can connect to a Connectify Hotspot, with no special setup or software required. When Connectify is run in “Ad Hoc” mode it sets everything up for you (Wireless card, Internet sharing, firewall, etc.) in one click. It also provides advanced features like showing you what computers are connected to your network, and letting you right click them to Explore their shared drives and printers.

It should be a great software that you will need, in case when you want to share your data and you don’t have any portable storage (e.g flash drive) to distribute it. Also would be a nice software that you can use to play any networks games with your friend (just say Counter Strike or Stronghold Crusader). Just install Connectify in your laptop, set the configuration that you want to apply, whether by manual or by easy setup wizard. Turn on your windows 7 laptop wireless, and Buzz! Now you are ready to make a Ad Hoc network in your laptop. Search your Wi-Fi name in your friends laptop. If you have an internet connection, you could choose whether you want to share it too or not.

Your wireless Access Point hotspot is encrypted with WPA2-Personal (AES) encryption. Your security is as strong as the Password that you select. The Ad Hoc mode hotspots are protected with WEP encryption. You can’t turn off this encryption because Encryption is required with Connectify, they take your safety and security seriously.

Connectify runs on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, both in either 32 or 64 bits. Windows 7 Starter Edition is not supported, as it lacks some of the features Connectify utilizes. So remember this software will not run in Windows XP even Vista Connectify depends on improvements made in Windows 7 to operate. Frankly, Windows 7 is such a big improvement, that the developer suggest you’re better off upgrading than waiting for us to get all this working on an older version of Windows. But you also have to remember that your friends don’t need Windows 7 in order to connect to your Connectify hotspot, any Wi-Fi enabled device can connect to your network without any additional configuration or software.

For the installation and frequently asked questions just check it on Connectify Support website. Connectify is an absolutely free and unrestricted free software.

‘telnet’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Klik sub menu Uninstall a program di bawah menu Programs (jika Anda dalam Classic view: cukup pilih Programs and Features)

Pada panel sebelah kiri di bawah preferensi Tasks, klik Turn Windows features on or off

Setelah jendela popup terbuka, cari dan centangi kotak pilihan Telnet Client dan Telnet Server.

Klik OK
