How to Create Bilingual or Multilangues Blog or Webiste?
How to make foreign visitors love your website even if they don’t understand your language ? Add Language Translation to website and blogs – This is a simple Step by step guide to provide instant language translation in your website. Your site visitors can translate any webpage by clicking on the corresponding country flag and read your website in their native language.
Machine translation in blogs or websites is probably the easiest way of helping readers from different countries communicate. Even if a blogger writes in Spanish and a reader speaks English, or vice versa, both of them can still understand each other.
Today, people are blogging in multiple languages to create a conversation with readers outside the English Speaking blogosphere. Free language translation tools let bloggers post messages simultaneously in English, German, French, Spanish and other languages.
The most popular free Web-based language translation tools are offered by Google, AltaVista Babelfish and WorldLingo. Using these services, web audiences who speak English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Greek, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Japanese, Korean or Russian will be able to translate websites into their native language.
With over 65% of web users speaking a language other than English, providing the means of translating websites with English content to another language is very essential. Your multilingual website becomes more accessible and popular if users can translate your website content into their native language.
Most of Blogger or WordPres Self Hosted user provide a translation box in their website or blog. So to translate a webpage, you simply type in the URL of the website, choose the source and target language, and click the Translate button. [World Lingo, Google Translate, BabelFish Translate]. This is the easy ways to make multilanguages website, althoung the translation of the webpage is still “dirty”.
Fortunately, the special features for WordPress Self Hosted *like me too*, there are several plugins that we can use to make multilanguages blog, see:
- Polyglot by Martin Chlupac
- Language Switcher by Jennifer Hodgdon
- Gengo by Jamie Talbot
- xLanguage by Sam Wong
- xili-language by MS xiligroup
But for my blog, I prefer to use plugin called qTranslate, because I think qTranslate makes creation of multilingual content as easy as working with a single language. For more information about qTranslate plugin, please visit the official website.
How about you?

Btw … nice design …
@preaxz
Thanks, It’s very kind of you Mr.Arie
@preaxz
namun saya harus mengorbankan subdomain saya!
makasih mas!
Setelah beberapa menit berpikir akhirnya saya memutuskan untuk menggunakan saran dari mas Arie yakni memakai permalink yang SEO URL
Pernah menggunakan plugin translator di wordpress, tapi hasilnya masih kurang memuaskan…
@cara membuat blog
@anggalia
Tentunya hasil terjemahannya qtranslate tergantung dari Anda sendiri, jadi dengan plugin ini kita dimungkinkan untuk menulis dalam dua bahasa.
btw, terima kasih infonya!
Kalau qTranslate ini kita harus membuat manual artikel setiap bahasanya ya? Kalau saya menggunakan plugin Global Translator, cukup menulis 1 artikel dalam bahasa Indonesia, maka akan langsung diterjemahkan ke dalam lebih dari 30 bahasa. Jadi lebih cepat walaupun terkadang bahasanya agak membingungkan.
seep lah baru mau coba nehh
keep creative
wah, makasih ya infonya! i’ll try
I finally tried it, and I can say that I kind of not liking it.
In order to split the content into two languages or more, it inserting some tags to all the post data on the database, which may broke your blog when you decide not to use it any longer. Importing backup will not help if you have more post written after the plugin installation.
It is also convert your post title the same way, and the result is, it may broke your valid XHTML depends on plugins you’ve installed. WP Related posts, for example, is getting the post title by $post->post_title, so when you see the source code, the tag added by qTranslate will still remain. To get rid of it, you must edit WP Related Posts core file and change all $post->post_title into get_the_title( $post->ID ), and you will have to do that each time it updated unless the writer has change it to the way it should be.
Another thing, I don’t know if it affects AISOP, but as far as I concern, while AISOP allow you to enter your own meta description, which it rely on custom field, I think you should write the description in both language using the defined tag to make the translation works, otherwise your SEO will broke.
So what could be the best?
Writing in two language is the best solution, the problem is how you store your data. qTranslate should have never use tag to allow writing in two language, they could have create another table on the database two store all the translation. So when you decided not to use it any longer, you can easily delete the related table.
One thing lead to another, if you have already used qTranslate, and wnat to clean up those tags in all posts, you can do it in two way.
1. Delete all the tag manually by editing post by post which will consider a huge amount of time if you have thousands of posts.
2. Create a PHP script to get all the post, and strip the tag, and update the database automatically, which anyhow require a basic knowledge of PHP.
Sorry for long comments ( the longest? I assume ) …
